Amplifier Corp. of America 398 Broadway, New York,  13 NY  Founded in 1936 Peter Paul Kellogg helped design the first lightweight tape recorder built in North America, the Amplifier Corp. of America's Magnemite recorder.  It weighed less than 20 pounds; it went into commercial production in 1951. Professor of ornithology and biological acoustics, Cornell University. Peter Paul Kellogg was appointed assistant professor of ornithology at Cornell University in 1938 and professor ofornithology and biological acoustics in 1953.He studied bird sounds and the vocal apparatus of birds, and pioneered the recording and study of songs of wild birds. The Magnemite reel to reel tape recorder was easily recognized by the flywheel which helped stabilize the speed.                                         Amp Corp units in our collection - Magnemite VU                      Third party photos We appreciate all photos sent to our museum. Donations are NOT tax deductible and are now processed by Phantom Productions. All donations to MOMSR go 100% to support restoration of vintage magnetic recording devices in the private collection and help fund the web site development and hosting.
